The big boys don't always get things their own way. In light of Milan's slip-up at Cesena, we recall a few more Serie A surprises
10. Siena 3-0 Roma, 2007-08 Since arriving in Serie A in 2003 the Tuscan side had lost 6-0, 4-0, 5-1 and 3-0 to Roma in various competitions. However, in February 2008 they got their revenge, shocking the title-chasers 3-0 at their little stadium. Goals came from Simone Vergassola and Mario Frick plus a Max Tonetto o.g..
9. Padova 2-1 Inter, 1995-96 Enjoying their first season in Serie A for over 30 years, Padova had already suffered nine losses in 12 when Inter came to visit. The Nerazzurri were top half contenders while their hosts were rock bottom. However, Goran Vlaovic's double, either side of one from Maurizio Ganz, earned a famous win.
8. Fiorentina 0-2 Chievo, 2001-02 Tiny Chievo had made an impression in Serie B the season before but nobody expected them to perform in the top tier. However, in their debut match they went to the Artemio Franchi and came away with a 2-0 win thanks to Simone Perrotta and Massimo Marazzina.
7. Roma 0-1 Pescara, 1992-93 The Delfini had been in Serie A previously but were expected to be whipping boys in 1992-93, even more so when the fixture computer sent them to the Olimpico in Week 1. Enter defender Salvatore Nobile, whose 70th minute goal stunned the Giallorossi tifosi.
6. Foggia 2-0 Juventus, 1994-95 Juventus went on to win Lo Scudetto in Marcello Lippi's debut season at Juventus, but his first League loss as Bianconeri boss came at an unlikely venue. Pierpaolo Bresciani bagged one either side of the break to ensure Juve failed to take points away from the Pino Zaccheria.
5. Catania 3-1 Inter, 2009-10 Even Jose Mourinho's treble-winning side were not immune to a banana skin. Travelling to Sicily with the Scudetto in their sights, all was well when Diego Milito put them ahead. However, Maxi Lopez, Giuseppe Mascara and Jorge Martinez left them with egg on their face in 16 mad minutes.
4. Milan 0-1 Parma, 1992-93 Milan were unbeaten in 58 Serie A games dating back to May 1991 until a Faustino Asprilla goal at San Siro in March 1993 cracked the run. Parma were hardly minnows at the time, making moves in Europe, but they had only made their Serie A debut in 1990.
3. Roma 2-3 Lecce, 1985-86 Lecce were already relegated, Roma and Juve were tied at the top on 41 points with two games to go. Roma hosted Lecce, Juve played Milan… surely Sven Goran Eriksson's side were about to take the advantage? Ciccio Graziani put them ahead but by the 53rd minute they were 3-1 down.
2. Verona 5-3 Milan, 1972-73 The Rossoneri were top on the final day and were travelling to Verona, whose safety was secure and thus had nothing to play for. Job done, title in the bag? Verona were 3-0 up in half an hour and 5-1 clear by 72 minutes. Meanwhile, Juve downed Roma and bagged the title. 'Fatal Verona'.
1. Perugia 1-0 Juventus, 1999-00 Juve had a two-point lead over Lazio as they headed to Perugia on the final day. At kick-off blue skies welcomed the teams, but by the second half the rain was biblical. Juve had lost a championship here in the '70s and after an 82 minute delay the game resumed for Alessandro Calori to steal a goal which allowed Lazio, who had earlier beaten Reggina 3-0, to celebrate.
