Fiorentina defender Dario Dainelli has outlined the Viola's ambition to win the UEFA Cup ahead of Thursday's semi-final against Rangers.
The Tuscan told Corriere dello Sport that he believes lifting the trophy will be the perfect accompaniment to a fourth place finish in Serie A.
“This is the dream,” explained Dainelli. “My mates and I are already thinking to the Final which, providing we qualify for the Champions League, would provide a fitting end to an excellent season.”
The plucky 28-year-old, who joined the Gigliati in 2004, isn't overconfident on the eve of Fiorentina's trip to Glasgow and expects a hostile reception at Ibrox.
“We know that we will play in a cauldron, but it doesn't scare us. It was like this when we played in Liverpool against Everton and it spurred us on.
“It doesn't bother me when the opposing fans whistle, it bothers me more when our own supporters do it.”
If Fiorentina fail to reach the Final, held in Manchester on May 14, then Dainelli knows who he will be cheering for.
“I would be happy if my old friend Luca Toni won it with Bayern Munich, but now I am focusing on Thursday's game.”
The former Empoli stopper, who had a torrid time dealing with Palermo's Amauri on Saturday, is keen to assert himself amid doubt over his long-term future at the club.
“Everybody asks me if I'll stay but there are more important issues to deal with at the moment. We need good players, especially if we are to get to where we dream.”
