FIORENTINA, Prandelli is furious
Since Wednesday's 0-3 debacle against Lazio, Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli is visibly upset. The thing that bothers Prandelli the most is the poor performance and attitude shown by his players in Rome, something that Prandelli never had to deal with before. Prandelli said : "From now on, all of my players are under scrutiny. Since the start of the season, we are not working as a team. We have lost some humility. The players are not giving their best and they even complain when we lose. I made some mistakes too : I should have reminded them that Fiorentina comes first, there is no place for selfishness in a team. Those who disagree and want to act selfishly can leave. .... Now I expect commitment and a fighting spirit in the next game (against Genoa). .... I am not singling out any player, I am furious with all of my players". .... Latest rumours from Florence are suggesting that Prandelli is especially upset with forward Adrian Mutu. Other rumours claim that the team is lacking a real leader after the departure of Tomas Ujfalusi and Fabio Liverani as well as during the absence of Martin Jorgensen (injured) and Riccardo Montolivo (at the Olympics) at the beginning of this season. Without a leader, any team can crumble from within and lose unity. Moreover, after the defeat against Lazio, defender Alessandro Gamberini stated : "We have problems since the start of the season....", referring to the fact that there seems to be no chemistry between the new players and the "old guard". There are also other problems, such as the fact that some players lack motivation when relegated to the bench (for example, former starters Manuel Pasqual and Franco Semioli are having a difficult time accepting their secondary roles and apparently disagree with the turnover policy). Than, some disciplinary issues have started to occur (young forward Osvaldo is often late for training). .... In closing, Fiorentina GM Pantaleo Corvino added : "Players who lack the right mentality or a positive attitude for a top club cannot be part of Fiorentina. I agree with Prandelli. He has spoken with the players and his strong words are meant to stimulate a positive reaction from them. They must react on the pitch and accept the burden of responsibility. Anyway, knowing our players well, I know that they will react and start doing well".
