Sergio Pellissier makes his Azzurri debut aged 30 and admits he would relish the proposed move to Fiorentina.

The Chievo veteran is one of eight brand new faces in the squad for Saturday evening’s friendly with Northern Ireland.

“I now know why Italy won the World Cup. Meeting [Marcello] Lippi, I understood what kind of Coach he is and what he can give to his players.”

Pellissier was placed in the squad as a ‘reward’ for his impressive season at Chievo, scoring 13 goals to keep his team in Serie A.

“It is a return for me to this environment, as I played in the Under-20 side and it was truly strange running into some of the kit managers I knew 15 years ago!

“I am experiencing wonderful sensations and this call-up is the icing on the cake of a fantastic year. I thank Chievo for all this.”

Pellissier has been with the Flying Donkeys since 2002, but has been linked with a move to Napoli or Fiorentina.

“I know that Chievo consider me untouchable, but when offers have come in from important clubs, they were evaluated,” said the striker.

“I stood out with Chievo because I played consistent first team football and was therefore allowed to make mistakes, something that would not be tolerated in a big club.

“But these are the sides that open up important doors, so I expect I’m in the Nazionale jersey now because I scored a hat-trick against Juventus, not Reggina.

“I must admit, I do feel ready for a top club. Fiorentina are a very ambitious side and it would be a great option for me.

“I wouldn’t play all the time, but with the Champions League participation I could give Alberto Gilardino a rest and make my own mark.”

Pellissier was on target in today’s game between ranks at the Azzurri training ground, while Giampaolo Pazzini got a brace and Giuseppe Mascara also netted.
