For months rumours have circulated that Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino has completed a swoop for a big-name player whom the press like to refer to as ‘Mister X’.
Reports suggested last week that Inter outcast Hernan Crespo is about to join the Viola on a free transfer in the summer, but Corvino is still cautious and keeps the fans on their toes over the identity of ‘Mister X’.
“It is not fair to discuss details of the transfer market now, as there are still 180 minutes [of playing time] to go until the end of the season,” Corvino said during a press conference.
“These are very important, because they could allow us to meet our targets and reach our ‘Scudetto’. I don’t think it’s right to say who are ‘Mister X’ or ‘Mister Y’.
“I say Fiorentina have to look ahead at the future and keep an eye on the free agents too. Crespo is among them and can be one of our objectives. But I can’t say if he is ‘Mister X’, because we can’t sign any papers yet.”
Crespo, aged 33, has been at Inter since 2006, but his contract with the Beneamata will expire next month and he has not been offered a new deal.
