Fiorentina striker Pablo Osvaldo believes the Italian football authorities are right in implementing the fan ban and close stadium doors.
A number of Partenopei hooligans caused trouble on Sunday as they went on a violent rampage in Rome and Naples.
The Italian government was quick to swing into action and the club faces a fan ban for away games for the rest of the season.
The authorities warned that other high risk games will also be subject to stadium closures and Osvaldo believes it’s the right way forward.
“It’s not the best for a footballer but if it needs to be done to avoid the violence we saw on Sunday then so be it,” said Osvaldo.
“Football is fun and a spectacle, it certainly isn’t about what the Napoli fans did over the weekend.
“However, I don’t agree that the club and city should be made to pay for the trouble.”
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was also furious that his side have been punished. The chief even warned that he could quit the game if clubs are made to pay the consequences for the actions of mindless thugs.
